US stocks mixed amid euro concerns

Sacramento News.Net
Thursday 16th February, 2012

US stocks opened mixed Thursday amid positive data and euro concerns.

The Labor Department said initial claims for state unemployment benefits last week dropped 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 348,000, the lowest level since March 2008, Xinhua reported.

Despite the positive data, some investors retain strong doubts over whether eurozone leaders will agreed on a second massive bailout to save Greece, and whether the bailout will ultimately solve the problem.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 16.16 points, or 0.13 percent, to 12,797.14. The Standard Poor's 500 was up 1.32 points, or 0.10 percent, to 1,344.43. The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 0.66 points, or 0.02 percent, to 2,915.01.
